One running timer · a week of entries

Auto-tracking

Tracking that follows the board.

The most reliable timer is the one nobody has to remember. Turn on auto-tracking and KanBit starts and stops the clock as a task moves across your workflow — the same board you already work from.

01

Task moves into a working state

The timer starts on its own — no button, no reminder.

02

Task moves to done or review

The timer stops and the entry is saved against that task.

03

You set the rules

Pick the exact states or state categories that trigger start and stop, per workspace.

Auto-tracking is off until you switch it on, and it is configured per workspace — so a client that wants tracked hours gets them, and one that doesn't is left alone. Prefer to drive it yourself? Start and stop any timer by hand from the task.

Manual & billable

Forgot the timer? Type it in.

Real work happens in meetings, on calls, and away from the screen. KanBit doesn't punish you for it — every timer is editable, and you can log time that never ran through a stopwatch at all.

Manual entries

Worked away from the keyboard, or forgot to hit start? Type in the hours after the fact and attach them to the right task.

Pause and resume

Step away mid-task and pause the timer. Paused time is subtracted, so the entry reflects real focused work, not wall-clock time.

Billable flag

Mark any entry billable or not. The split carries through to every report, so client hours and internal hours never get muddled.

Reports

Reports your invoices can trust.

Tracked hours are only worth as much as the report you build from them. KanBit turns entries into totals you can defend — grouped the way the conversation needs, and exportable when it's time to bill.

Monthly summaries

Roll hours up by day, week, or month to see where the time actually went.

By member and project

Break the same window down by member, by project, or by task — whichever the conversation needs.

An entries view

Read every entry line by line, billable flag and all, so a total is never a black box.

CSV export

Export any report as CSV and take the numbers straight into your invoicing or accounting tool.

What we don't do

No screenshots. No keystroke scores.

KanBit tracks tasks, not people. There is no activity monitoring, no productivity index, and nothing watching how anyone spends their day.

What a timer records

How long a task took.

An entry is a duration attached to a task, with a billable flag and an optional note. That is the entire record. It exists to bill accurately and estimate better next time — not to grade anyone.

What it never records

Anything about the person.

No screenshots, no keystroke or mouse tracking, no idle-time shaming, no leaderboard. Surveillance software is a different product with a different goal, and KanBit isn't it.

Straight answers

Questions about time tracking.

The things teams ask before they turn it on. If yours isn't here, [email protected] reaches a real person.

No. Time tracking is included in every KanBit plan, including Free — there is no separate add-on, seat charge, or upgrade to unlock timers or reports.

KanBit does not render the invoice document — you keep producing that in the tool or template you already use. What it does track is billing status: every hour shows as not yet billed, awaiting payment, paid, included support, or free of charge; invoice records carry sent and paid status your client can see; and the whole statement exports to Excel.

Yes. Turn on auto-tracking for a workspace and a timer starts when a task moves into a working state and stops when it moves to done. You choose which workflow states or categories trigger it, and it stays off until you switch it on.

No. KanBit tracks tasks, not people. There are no screenshots, no keystroke or mouse monitoring, and no productivity score. A timer records how long a task took — nothing about what anyone did at their desk.

Give one client a workspace. See where it goes.
